Get Your Free PRSI Dental Check Before Year End

Did you know that under the Treatment Benefit Scheme you may be entitled to a free dental check up on an annual basis? Yes, you might say, that’s not news. But what you might not know is that this benefit works from January to December in any given year. So, if you haven’t availed of your free treatment in 2018, you only have a few weeks left to book your check-up.

Under the Treatment Benefit Scheme, workers who pay PRSI contributions and who have reached a determined threshold, are entitled to dental, optical and aural services. In plain English, that’s your teeth, eyes and ears.

In addition to the cost of your dental check-up, in October 2017, it was also introduced that qualified patients could avail of €42 towards the cost of a scale and polish, or where necessary a periodontal treatment. Periodontal treatments are performed in the treatment of periodontal diseases, more commonly known as gum disease.

It makes a lot of sense to avail of these free benefits if you are eligible for them. The current price of a comprehensive check-up at SCR Clinic is €50. If you opt to get a scale and polish at the same time, you would pay €50 for that too. So, you can get your free dental check-up and scale and polish by paying just €8 towards the cost of a bright, fresh smile in the run-up to Christmas.

If you are someone who has been contemplating freshening up your smile with teeth whitening for the festive season, our team at SCR Clinic can provide this for you in a safe, controlled manner. While there are lots of at home teeth whitening kits available on the market, not all of them can provide you with the results you want while ensuring that your teeth and mouth are safe at the same time.

First of all, your dentist can ensure that you are a good candidate for teeth whitening before proceeding. There can be reasons why it is best to wait until your mouth is in a healthier condition before proceeding, or where the results may not be what you hope for due to the amount of pigment in your teeth.

Teeth whitening uses hydrogen peroxide to whiten your teeth. This is a chemical which is found in hair dye and is quite strong. So, when you’re applying it to the mouth, you want to be sure that you are doing so correctly. While some patients experience sensitivity, this is not always the case.

Teeth whitening can make a big difference to your smile and overall appearance which can boost confidence. If this is something you have been thinking about trying, why not discuss it with your dentist when you book in for your free dental check-up and scale and polish? In fact, the best time to get your teeth whitened is after a scale and polish, as it provides optimal results. While the cost of teeth whitening is not covered by the Treatment Benefit Scheme, getting the value of €100 worth of free dental care can make the investment in this other treatment more feasible for many patients.

Remember, the Treatment Benefit Scheme operates from January to December. This means you can book in for your free dental check-up and reduced cost scale and polish now, and get another one next year, too, if you book before the end of December.

Contact reception on 01- 454 9688 to book your free dental check-up, and if you have some time booked off work to get your Christmas shopping done, you might be able to do the two in the one day! Now, that’s what I call efficient!
