Winter Taking Its Toll on Your Skin? – Give Yourself a Boost with Anti-Wrinkle Injections

Welcome back to our blog – and Happy New Year! Although it’s a bright morning outside as I write this post, only a short time earlier there was frost everywhere and you could see your breath as soon as you stepped outside. Today, let’s talk about your skin – and more importantly, how you can combat the effects of winter on it!

As we go about our daily lives, we leave central-heated buildings to go out into cold, icy air and back again. This pattern wreaks havoc on our skin on both fronts. The centrally heated buildings are drying on our skin and the cold cracks and chafes it. Those who are particularly prone to the cold can end up with open cuts on their hands and lips which only seem to ease as the weather improves.

Add to this a plethora of late nights over the Christmas season and, by the end of January, your skin can feel a bit worn out. If you’re looking in the mirror and feeling that you look older than usual, this might be the reason. Winter weather, central heating, lack of hydration and late nights all take their toll on our skin. So, what can we do?

We can’t hide away until Spring comes, but luckily there are a few things you can do to help get some bounce back in your skin.

First of all, drink up- water, that is! Your skin is made up of 64% water, if you’re dehydrated, it will show on your skin. The recommended amount of water to drink each day is between 2 and 3 litres. Although this may sound like a lot, once you get into the habit of keeping a water bottle with you and sipping it throughout the day, before long you’ll get your required amount which will have great benefits for your skin – and will also help you feel better, improve your concentration levels and reduce the occurrence of headaches.

Take Care of your Skin
Considering that your skin has to fight a battle each day when you face the elements, it is a good idea to use a rich creamy moisturiser during the winter months. Doing so can create a barrier between your skin and the cold which protects it. It also helps counteract some of the moisture loss. Using a gentle method of cleaning your skin is also important at this time of year, any harsh face washing methods will strip your skin of its oils at the start of the day leaving you with little protection from the weather.

Get a Good Night’s Sleep
When we have a late night or a disturbed night’s sleep it is always an extra kick in the teeth to look in the mirror the following morning and see how old we look. Ugh! However, if we concentrate on getting a full night of good quality rest, we can rest assured that we’ll look rested in the morning. While we sleep the blood flows to the skin helping us to look more radiant and our bodies produce more collagen which helps the elasticity of the skin.

When you consistently don’t get enough sleep your body produces cortisol, the stress hormone. This can cause inflammation in the body which makes any skin conditions like eczema worse.

Consider Anti-Wrinkle Injections
Anti-wrinkle injections are becoming a popular way of giving your skin an added boost at times when it needs a little help. At SCR Clinic, our anti-wrinkle injection treatments are carried out by Dr. Kevin McDonald who is fully qualified and highly experienced at administering ant-wrinkle injections.

While anti-wrinkle injections were once seen as the preserve of the rich, this is not the case anymore. You can have three areas treated here at the SCR Clinic for €270, but prices start at just €130.

Anti-wrinkle injections are used extensively in private practice and are a very safe option to help freshen up your face when administered by a suitably qualified professional. The anti-wrinkle injection is administered through a needle, not unlike that used in acupuncture, directly to the muscle which stops it contracting and allowing the skin to be smoothed. The procedure can be used to address crow’s feet around the eyes, forehead lines and to lessen the appearance of deep wrinkles and frown lines.

As the needle used is quite fine, the experience is not usually particularly painful and when you consider that the effects can last for up to 4 months, it’s understandable why so many patients opt for this type of treatment.

Anti-wrinkle injections do not take long to get done, a few minutes and you’ll be out the door again. And don’t worry, the full effects of the treatment can take a couple of days to become apparent, so you won’t be bombarded with questions when you come home afterwards.

Don’t let your skin get you down this winter, give yourself a boost with anti-wrinkle injections at SCR Clinic.
